Yes, we all thought it was a joke when reports surfaced that Robert Pattinson might be the new Batman. It was hard to think that Twilight star might be the new slick Bruce Wayne and fierce Caped Crusader. Well, we'll have to make an effort as Warner Bros. officially confirmed that Pattinson got the role.
Variety reported back in May that Robert Pattinson is a strong favorite to play the new iteration of Batman in the upcoming Matt Reeves' movie while Skins' star Nicholas Hoult also received consideration. Now, the magazine got the confirmation that Pattinson nabbed the role and already signed a contract to star in the movie.
Reeves' Batman movie will reportedly focus on a younger Bruce Wayne and is expected to enter pre-production in the summer. The release date was earlier scheduled for June 25, 2021.
Pattinson will succeed Ben Affleck, who previously played Batman in DC's Extended Universe. Affleck portrayed the character in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Justice League, while also being tapped to write, direct, and star in a Batman standalone movie. However, after the previous movies received bad reviews from the critics and became minor box-office bombs, Warner Bros. decided to start things over.
